This lodge in the KZN battlefields aims to tuck itself into the landscape by remaining low slung. Local rock is used where possible to capture the natural hues of the earth in the building.

Winters in this region are dry and very cold, whilst summers are wet and hot, leading to a design that heavily shades the interior, with opportunities for sunlight to enter deep into the building during the winter months. 

Designed around view lines towards a prominent mountain, the client wanted the lodge to encompass the four elements of wind, air, water and fire. 

Pattern is introduced to link the cultural significance of it’s place to the design.
